Technology Overview

LoranTrack™ by Lorantec Systems, Inc.

Lorantec has aligned today’s most robust new technologies to create a final-form solution to the ADC (Automatic Data Collection) and RTLS (Real Time Locating Systems) needs of shipping customers.  These include the advent of worldwide digital satellite packet technologies, advanced LAWN™ (Location Aware Wireless Network), GPS (the global positioning system), XML and EDI and Web based interfaces, antennae design, extended life power management, and locking technologies.

Global Tracking and Monitoring

LoranTrack first obtains information about the location of a shipment anywhere in the world using existing GPS technology.  LoranTrack then uses state-of-the-art packet based store-and-forward satellite communication technology to provide cost effective information to its customers.  The system is fully automated and continually monitors the locations and physical characteristics of containers.  The LoranTrack design incorporates optional sensors for monitoring temperature, shock, angular orientation (tipping), and chemical and radiation levels.  In addition, many other types of sensors may be incorporated to detect any physical characteristic important to our customers.

No Limitations to Visibility

The Company’s unique communication capabilities using LAWN™ overcome the line-of-sight requirements limiting the effectiveness of other satellite-based solutions.  Thus, Lorantec’s customers will be able to stay in contact with all of their containers, even those at the bottom of a stack or in the middle of a ship’s hold.

Easy to Use

Lorantec recognizes that ease of use will be a key criterion for potential customers.  For that reason, LoranTrack is being developed to be practically “idiot-proof”.  The units mount easily onto any cargo container, regardless of its size, shape or function.  Once mounted, the unit automatically activates itself and will immediately begin providing information via Lorantec’s secured website.

Information Tracking

The information provided to customers will be available in a variety of standard information formats for monitoring or direct download into other databases systems.  Through the website, users will be able to configure their profile such that proactive notifications are sent via email, voice and/or paging alerts.
